The new Omnivise Edge concept represents the latest stage in a 25-year evolutionary process, which began with the launch of the Siemens
WIN_TS on-premise processing module. This initially provided the ability to transmit a very limited number of signals from 6 modules, with data
transmitted in batches. Major progress has been made from these first beginnings to enable real time transfer of data, much greater capacity,
in terms of signals and modules, and enhanced security.
Objectives
Why should I upgrade to Omnivise Edge?
Well, there are a couple of reasons to do so.
• The first is the New System Core.
In the first release of Omnivise Edge, the "heart" of the system, WIN_TS3000 data management,
was replaced by the newly developed Omnivise Edge Core.
The WIN_TS3000 modules and configuration tools remain largely the same and have been
further developed for Omnivise Edge.
The raw data archive for storing process data is based on one database system (Postgres plus
Timescale extension) instead of several databases. Timescale realizes the storage and
processing.
• The second is Platform Independence.
Omnivise EdgeCore can be installed on different operating systems. Applications can run in
containers and in virtual machines.
• The third is Open Interfaces.
The Omnivise Edge Core provides a gRPC user interface that provides functions for reading and
writing configurations and process values. This interface can be accessed by a variety of
programming languages, including C++, C#, Java, Kotlin, Python, PHP, Go, Ruby and more.
Encrypted communication across computer boundaries is also possible.
• The fourth is Improved Cybersecurity.
Encrypted communication with data management, improved system hardening.
• The fifth is Additional OPC UA Protocols.
The Omnivise Edge System supports OPC UA Data Access (DA), Historical Data Access
(HDA) and Alarms and Conditions (A&C).Client and server are provided for all three
protocols.
• The sixth is LocalELVis Visualization.
The Local-ELVis web application is included in the standard scope of supply. It enables
the visualization of the process values in almost real time. The application can also be
called from outside the system, e.g. from the customer network or remotely via the
Common Remote Service Platform (cRSP).
• The seventh is Fewer Windows Users.
The engineering authorization level has been omitted. The associated tasks now
require logging in with an administrator login.
